Engaging audiences is what every event is aimed at and a good Emcee can liven up any experience and keep the audience hooked on with her/his wit and charm. As with any live performance, Emcee work does carry a real risk of failure. If you don’t prepare well, you won’t execute well, and that experience is exactly as painful as you think it is. On the other side, when you have fun as an Emcee, it really is a magical experience. You generate a connective energy in the audience that’s just intoxicating, and will leave you wanting to do it again. Meet Pune based Sanjay Potdar, an IT Professional working in an MNC, who has been successfully following his passion as an Anchor and has enthralled audiences from over 200+ events with his gigs and yet believes this is just the beginning, picture abhi baaki hai mere dost!
Tryst with Destiny – Part 1
Sanjay is an EEC Engineering graduate working in the IT Industry since last 11 years but his work as a professional Anchor started only couple of years ago. It so happened that Sanjay went to a party and the Master of Ceremonies for that event could not come for some reasons. As destiny would have it, Sanjay chanced upon hosting that party and made the audience have a blast with his spontaneity and witty humour. One of his friends from the audience suggested him to take this to professional level and this is how his journey started.
Son of an army man, Sanjay got a chance to live in almost 15 states of India. According to him, knowing people with different cultures from these states has helped him to have good command over various languages, be outgoing, spontaneous and witty with superb comic timing. But things were not as rosy in his life. The struggles and hardships he endured in completing his education, when his father had to take up driving an autorickshaw after retirement due to a financial crunch, gave Sanjay a different perspective of life which keeps him grounded and closer to his roots. The experiences so gathered transform into witty social humour and punches in his acts.
Tryst with Destiny – Part 2
Initially, Sanjay started taking up anchoring assignments for birthday parties. In a highly competitive market, big shows were hard to come by. It was also difficult to create your own mark and pitch for corporate events as every event company has their own favourite Emcee that they partner with. However, this did not deter Sanjay and he took it as a challenge and kept working on his assignments with dedication. Soon his patience bore fruit and destiny knocked on his doors again.
One day, one of his Anchor friends had to attend to an emergency and he passed his corporate show to Sanjay. It was like a windfall for him – opportunity to host a huge show with a 1000+ audience! Sanjay turned this opportunity into gold and the show was a smash hit and big success. It was a turning point in his journey as an Anchor. Thereafter event managers started noticing him and the assignments for bigger shows and corporate events came pouring in.
“I take each event as a new challenge and take it as my family event. I always strive to give my best. It needs loads of preparation, planning the flow of the show and punches in between.”
“It happens 99% of the time that you have to introduce changes at the last moment… so you have to be observant, adaptive and on the toes all the time.”
Sanjay has hosted over 200+ shows and has enthralled audiences in Corporate events, Award ceremonies, Product launches, Dealer meets, Live talk shows, Fashion shows, Dance competitions, Sports events, Marathons and Parties. While he continues his profession in IT, he plans to take his passion of Anchoring all over India. He knows he has to take one event at a time and give his best each and every time. After all, If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.
