S.P.D.T. Mumbai Educator honoured with MTRES Teaching Excellence Awards 2018

Education plays a vital role in building the future of our nation by transforming lives and communities. We have several educator heroes who help students aim high and achieve their potential, often meeting and overcoming considerable challenges along the way. Recently Delhi based MT Research & Educational Services (MTRES) came up with Teaching Excellence Awards (TEA) 2018, to recognize the monumental role teachers play in our society as they instil a desire to learn and achieve and create tomorrow’s leaders. Meet one of the awardees, Dr. Sandeep Poddar, Assistant Professor and HoD, Department of Commerce, Smt. Parmeshwaridevi Durgadutt Tibrewala (S.P.D.T.) Lions Juhu College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Mumbai, Maharashtra, who has been honoured with Excellent Teacher Award in MTRES TEA 2018.

Dr Sandeep Poddar

Dr Sandeep has overall 15 years of teaching experience. He is associated with the institution since more than 10 years now. He has done M.CoM., M.Phil, DFM, PGDFM, Ph.D. in Commerce and had also qualified in MAH-SET. He is the  Internal Examination Coordinator, Internal NAAC Coordinator and Internal IQAC Coordinator of the institution. He has co-authored 10 books with highly reputed publishers. He has published and presented more than 20 papers at highly reputed Indexed journals at National and International level.

His Ph.D. research topic was around Challenges and Issues faced by SMEs. The idea was to understand issues and problems faced by them. Majority of the Industries in India are SMEs and Government has taken many initiatives and introduced schemes for providing loans to them. Hence to understand the same, study was undertaken. Till date he has guided 200 PG Students for Research Projects. He is also a Ph.D. Guide at JJT university, Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, and has four scholars conducting their research under his able guidance. He also serves as an External Referee for Ph.D. Thesis Evaluation at JJT University.

He is associated with ICWAI (Institute of Cost accountant of India) and has life membership with Indian Accounting Association. He is an Advisory Board Member at “CENTUM” Multi-Disciplinary Bi- Annual Research Journal (ISSN NO. 2231-1475). He was Paper setter for finance and accountancy subjects at University of Mumbai for continuous three academic years between 2014 to 2017. He conceptualized and organized National Paper presentation conference at SPDT in the year 2013 named “Vision 2013” and in the year 2016 named “Vision 2016”.

Dr Sandeep uses innovative pedagogies like conducting Role play during Finance presentation, Blended Teaching- Learning through MOOC, Short videos on concept understanding, Deliberating on case studies, Group Discussions through article reading and Multiple Choice based quiz to understand conceptual ideas. He is bestowed with Awards such as Teaching Excellence, Research Excellence, and many more from recognized institutions. He has attended orientation, refresher courses and many short term programmes organised by UGC HRD. He is currently pursuing a second PhD and aspires to excel in research.
