Education plays a vital role in building the future of our nation by transforming lives and communities. We have several educator heroes who help students aim high and achieve their potential, often meeting and overcoming considerable challenges along the way. Recently Delhi based MT Research & Educational Services (MTRES) came up with the second edition of their Teaching Excellence Awards (TEA) 2019, to recognize the monumental role teachers play in our society to create tomorrow’s leaders as they instil a desire to learn and achieve. The awards celebrate the efforts of all those who go above and beyond to promote excellence within our education system. Meet Dr. Indraneel Mukhopadhyay, Professor, Department of Information Technology, Institute of Engineering and Managament, Kolkata, who has been honoured with Excellent Teacher Award in MTRES TEA 2019.
Dr Indraneel has over 20 years of comprehensive work experience that includes 4 years in the Corporate IT sector and over 16 years in all aspects of Teaching and General Administration in reputed educational institutions. He completed his B.E. in Computer Science & Engineering from Amravati University in 1999 and M.S. in Information Technology from Clark University, Worcester, MA, USA, in 2003. He has the distinction of being the Winner of Dean’s Award during his MS. He completed his Doctorate of Philosophy in Computer Science and Engineering under Technology in 2017 on “Network Security in Business Application” from Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (formerly known as West Bengal University of Technology)· He has published over 24 research papers in journals / conferences of national and international repute.
He began his professional career in the corporate IT sector in 1999 in Kolkata and worked in reputed organizations like Wipro Ltd. and Net Space Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Later, he moved to USA and worked in companies like General Technologies Inc. and Atlas Software Technologis Inc between 2001 and 2003. However, while pursuing his Masters in USA, he realized that his calling is in the field of education and he decided to come back to India.
He joined National Institute of Science and Technology, Berhampur, Odisha, in 2003 and thus began his journey as an Educator. Later, he joined Institute of Engineering and Management, Kolkata, in 2006 and has been associated with the institute ever since. He currently works as Professor in the Department of Information Technology at the institute.
Dr Indraneel believes that education is not only about teaching students, but it also involves proper planning and framing of the entire learning ecosystem. His preferred model of grooming and making students well-equipped is to keep a balance between theoretical and practical knowledge. He was instrumental in implementing various changes in the traditional learning methodology by introducing Blended Learning. He has also been instrumental in organizing multiple special Workshops / Symposiums to equip students with modern tools of the trade.
He has rich exposure in administration and supervision of university activities including planning, organizing and directing comprehensive educational programs for undergraduates and postgraduates. He has also served the institute in the roles of Acting Professor-In-Charge of Management Wing, Assistant Head of Information Technology Department and Co-ordinator for M.Tech. Program (I.T. Department). Between 2015 to 2017, he has successfully conducted multiple Workshops on Raspberry Pi3 at University of British Columbia, Canada and Columbia University, USA.
Over the years, Dr Indraneel has added many feathers to his repertoire of technical and management qualifications. He is a Certified CMI Level 5 Manager in Management and Leadership (2019); Certified Mentor from London Business School and Goldman Sachs in association with National Entrepreneurship Network (2011) and Certified Entrepreneurship Educator from Stanford Technology Ventures Program (STVP), Stanford University, USA; Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and National Entrepreneurship Network (2009). He is also a member of various reputed professional bodies.
Dr Indraneel believes that the education sector is highly competitive and being innovative is the only way to succeed. He feels working with various intellectual and visionary leaders has helped him grow as an individual. His passion for this sector has only increased and has motivated him to do more for the future of our world through our youngsters.

MT Research & Educational Services is an initiative to bridge the gap between academics and industry. It was founded in 2013 with the combination of industry, academic and research personnel. They execute various educational events (Conferences, Seminars, Workshops, Short Term Courses, Trainings and Competitions) throughout India.
