Education plays a vital role in building the future of our nation by transforming lives and communities. We have several educator heroes who help students aim high and achieve their potential, often meeting and overcoming considerable challenges along the way. Recently Delhi based MT Research & Educational Services (MTRES) came up with the second edition of their Teaching Excellence Awards (TEA) 2019, to recognize the monumental role teachers play in our society to create tomorrow’s leaders as they instil a desire to learn and achieve. The awards celebrate the efforts of all those who go above and beyond to promote excellence within our education system. Meet Dr. S. Sridhar, Distinguished Advisor, Infine-Sum Modeling Inc, Chennai, who has been honoured with Outstanding Teacher Award in MTRES TEA 2019.
Dr. Sridhar, a renowned academic administrator and an internationally reputed expert in the field of Information Technology, has overall 40+ years of combined experience in academic and corporate world. His academic qualifications include M.Sc., M. Phil. in Mathematics from University of Madras (1979) and Ph.D. in Computer Science Engineering from JNU Delhi (1984). He served the first half of his career, around two decades, in corporate sector in renowned organizations like ONGC, India (1980-1994) and Sharjah International Airport, UAE (1995-2000).
At ONGC, his last role was of Joint Director and he headed the Regional computer centres in multiple city offices for technical data processing like seismic, drilling and reservoir with a lot of high end modeling techniques. About 30 R&D projects were successfully completed under his leadership. At Sharjah International Airport, he served as Director – IT and led the Department of Management Information Services (MIS) to provide comprehensive and high quality services, for the modernization of the airport, in tune with state of art technology.
Dr Sridhar served the second half of his career, around two decades, in education sector. He has worked as Vice Chancellor of Universities like DSI RAK, UAE (2006-08) and DKNMU, Rajasthan (2017-19). He has also served as Director in SKR Engineering College, Chennai (2011-13) and R V College of Engineering, Bengaluru (2013-17). He was instrumental in transforming many Engineering institutions to the level of Universities with quality implementation process like NBA, NAAC, Centres of Excellence, Research and Incubation centres and funded projects through AICTE / DST / TIFAC. He has served as Chief Examiner / Chair for many international universities like NAU, USA; AGU, Dubai; Skyline University, UAE; BITS-Dubai and MAHE Dubai. He has also served as Visiting Professor to foreign Universities, IIMA, IITD and Anna University Chennai.
He has published 178 papers in International / National journals of reputation with good impact factor. He has guided 20 PhD scholars under various Universities as Supervisor and all of them were awarded degrees. He has co-authored two books (Principles of Distributed DBMS and another on Data Mining) jointly with Canadian authors for Pearson Publications and eight books as solo author for Lambert German Publishers. He has organised many International conferences / workshops as Technical Chair and Editor in Chief. He has also served as Advisor to multiple International bodies and many engineering colleges in India for technical development.
He has been honoured by International / National bodies with gold shields and certificates for outstanding contributions in the fields of Information Technology, Education, Research and Consultancy. He received Gold shields from Sharjah Airport, UAE, thrice as Best Director and was also selected as Best IT Professional by USA committee three times . He has also received multiple National Awards in India for outstanding contributions in the fields of Education, Research and Consultancy work.
