Recently Delhi based MT Research & Educational Services (MTRES) came up with the second edition of their Teaching Excellence Awards (TEA) 2019, to recognize the monumental role teachers play in our society to create tomorrow’s leaders as they instil a desire to learn and achieve. The awards celebrate the efforts of all those who go above and beyond to promote excellence within our education system. Meet Dr. Sudhir Y. Kumar, Professor and Head, Department of Electrical Engineering, School of Engineering and Technology (SET) at Mody University of Science and Technology, Lakshmangarh, Sikar, Rajasthan, who has been honoured with Outstanding Teacher Award in MTRES TEA 2019.

Dr Sudhir Y. Kumar
Dr. Kumar has over 22 years of rich experience working at various institutions of repute in India. He received his B.Tech degree in Electrical Engineering from Bangalore University in year 1996; M.Tech. in Electrical Engineering with specialization of Power Systems from Regional Institute of Technology (Presently, National Institute of Technology), Jamshedpur, in year 2000 and Ph.D degree in Electrical Engineering in 2013. He has done his Ph.D. on the topic of Reduced Order Modeling and its Application in Electrical Power System Using Bacterial Foraging Technique, under the supervision of Prof. S. Mukherjee of IIT Roorkee.
Research Focus Areas
Dr. Kumar’s major research concentration has been in the areas of Renewable Energy, Smart Grid, Ultra–Capacitor, Power Quality, Soft-computing, Modeling and Simulation of Large Scale System.
Today India is facing the challenge of massive increase in electricity consumption against the backdrop of shortfall in its generational capacity to meet the demand. In response, villages and larger-scale micro-grid are springing up in many areas, to supplement the woefully inadequate national grid. The Indian Govt. is also promoting solar powered micro-grid systems as a part of its National Redevelopment Program.
As the conventional grid are transforming into smart micro-grids, the challenges to integrate and synchronize varying nature of power sources is a challenging task. Dr. Kumar’s research focuses on the study of various issues / challenges and implementing the possible solutions to improve the micro-grid performance through innovative design, development and their testing of Renewable Energy (Solar & Wind Energy) Integrated Smart Power Grid.
Dr Kumar has more than 120 scientific research papers and 3 books to his credit in this domain. He has guided 4 Ph.D Scholars in area of Smart Grid, Renewable Energy, Modern Energy Storage (Ultra Capacitor) and Electric Vehicle and currently 2 research scholars are pursuing their doctoral degree under his supervision.
He is a life member of ISTE, New Delhi, Solar Energy Society of India, IEI-Kolkata, IET-UK, National Academy of Science, Allahabad, and Automatic Control and Dynamic Optimization Society.
Dr Kumar has organized/attended many Short Term Courses, workshop conferences/Seminar in the area of Electrical Engineering. He is a Reviewer and Editorial Board member of many reputed Journal, Conferences and Magazines of repute. He is a member of many academic bodies such as Academic Council, UGPC, PGRPC and Board of Studies of Mody University and other external academic institution and is also involved as an expert in various Universities of repute.
