I.T. Educator of Sona College of Tech, Salem, honoured with MTRES Teaching Excellence Award 2018

Education plays a vital role in building the future of our nation by transforming lives and communities. We have several educator heroes who help students aim high and achieve their potential, often meeting and overcoming considerable challenges along the way. Recently Delhi based MT Research & Educational Services (MTRES) came up with Teaching Excellence Awards (TEA) 2018, to recognize the monumental role teachers play in our society as they instil a desire to learn and achieve and create tomorrow’s leaders. Meet one of the awardees, Dr. Thangaraj Kesavan, Assistant Professor and Researcher, Department of Information Technology, Sona College of Technology, Selam, who has been honoured with Promising Teacher Award in MTRES TEA 2018.

Dr. Thangaraj received his B.E Computer Science degree from Madras University and M.E and Ph.D from Anna University. He has more than 15 years of teaching experience. His current research focus is in the design and development of energy efficient wireless protocols. He had attended an internship at IIT Kanpur involving the study of LEACH and LEACH-C protocols. His research interests include Cloud Computing and Internet of Things.

He has guided more than 25 real time projects of Engineering, MCA, MBA and Diploma Students. He has published a paper in an international journal and presented many research papers in national and international conferences. He has organized various technical seminars, guest lectures, symposiums, and other related activities for the benefit of student’s community.

Apart from his teaching assignments, Dr Thangaraj dons various roles. As IBM Center of Excellence Team member, he has guided students for “IBM Great Mind Challenge Contest”. As Infosys Campus Connect Initiative Programme-Coordinating team member he handles campus connect classes for B.Tech students and industry electives for final year/ pre final year students. As ISO core team member, he is in charge of all the ISO activities of the department, awareness programs being conducted in the college and acting as Internal Auditor. As the Core team member of the Counsellors Team of College Placement Cell of the institution, counsel and encourage students to advance their development as individuals in their career path.

He was a recipient of Best Young Engineer Award and Best Faculty Advisor Award from IE(I). He is a member in professional societies like ISTE, IAENG, and MTRES. He is also Computer Engineering Committee Member for IEI Salem Local Centre.

About MTRES
MT Research & Educational Services is an initiative to bridge the gap between academics and industry. It was founded in 2013 with the combination of industry, academic and research personnel. They execute various educational events (Conferences, Seminars, Workshops, Short Term Courses, Trainings and Competitions) throughout India.
