Following in the Footsteps, Creating his own Identity

Architecture is a visual art and its creations speak for themselves. At the core, it is driven by a powerful need for symbolism which means the architecture must have something that appeals to human heart. It could be achieved only from real innovation by pushing boundaries and going beyond common design stereotypes. Meet Mumbai based designer Muneeb Duberia of SDA Designs, whose work reflects a refined elegance and attention to detail that create the perfect balance of function, charm and character. Recipient of National Quality Assurance Award 2017 as Best Interior Design Firm of Maharashtra, SDA Designs offers a unique talent of blending classic, timeless architectural elements with an innovative and contemporary design aesthetic.

Muneeb’s love for his craft is not accidental, as he hails from a family with a background of design. Muneeb’s grandfather late Mr. Qasim Duberia was a Chartered Architect, way ahead of others of his generation. SDA Designs was founded in 1994 by Muneeb’s father Mr. Sufyan Duberia (in the cover pic), a Civil Engineer by qualification and Designer by profession. From humble beginnings back then, Mr Sufyan has grown his firm brick by brick and today it boasts of a successful track record of projects completed in multiple cities, associations with prominent brands in the industry and operations in UAE as well.

Growing up in a house with a strong presence in the profession of design, Muneeb became a participant from an early age. Visiting ongoing sites with his father, observing spaces taking shape brought about his involvement in SDA Designs. While most teens would prefer enjoying their vacations after their 10th boards, he preferred to work extensively at his father’s firm learning Autocad and other tools. He has a unique distinction of single-handedly managing setting up of the library (a 300 sq ft space) of his school right from designing, appointing and negotiating with contractor, supervision and finally settling of finances, all done when he was studying in Grade 11.

Everybody wants to become successful, very few of them want to work towards it. With such a great platform recieved from my father, I aim to make the most use of it and carry this forward with the same principles that have been taught by him.

Muneeb went in for a formal education in Architecture after his 12th boards. While he was studying, he was also working with his father gaining hands-on experience in design as well as execution. However, in 2014, he had to cut short his studies in between to meet the growing needs of their firm as they were in the process of setting up their operations in Dubai. Once the operations stabilised, he went back to his studies in 2015 and is now looking forward to completing his graduation in the coming academic year.

One of the biggest supports I have received in handling my education and work commitments is from my college (Hiray College Of Architecture), my Principal Mr. Sunil Magdum and all the other faculties.

My grandfather and father are my biggest source of inspiration. Apart from them, my mentor Mr. Mahesh Talreja has been a great influence, support and a well wisher who would just be happy in seeing me successful as much as my father.
