Fashion Fundas is a well known fashion design institute in Pune founded by Mrs. Kamartaj Pathan in the year 2000. A recognized Singer India sewing school, it is well equipped with state-of-the art infrastructure for fashion designing courses, stitching, sketching, hand embroidery and fashion technology. Even after an illustrious career spanning 25 years, Mrs Pathan feels that her journey has only begun and there is so much more to explore.
Mrs. Pathan started in the field of Fashion as a teenager freelancing for leading newspapers and magazines. She was inspired from her mother who spent 40 years as a Diploma teacher for Tailoring Courses. She has inherited much of her teaching skills from her mother who strongly believed that best education comes from a versatile teacher. After undergoing a formal education in Fashion and closely studying the Indian and International Fashion circuit, she realized that there were lot of gaps in Fashion Education and the expectations of the Industry. Particularly lacking was a disciplined, hands-on approach with focus on latest trends in the industry and development of entrepreneurial skills that can give a sound foundation for the students to begin their journey in the world of Fashion.
Fashion Fundas academy was started by Mrs. Pathan as an experiment in the year 2000 with the support of her family. Her mode of teaching, the modules she covered with key focus on hands-on training and opportunities to showcase talent in various events were soon recognized and appreciated by her students. She kept on getting good response and there was no looking back. At Fashion Fundas, its one year course is career oriented – students start taking orders for work from first month itself. This way, on completion of the course, the student has not only learnt the art of fashion design, she also has a ready customer base to cater to. Mrs. Pathan has also actively collaborated with leading brands for their activities and events which also gives good exposure for her students. In her pursuit of excellence, Mr. Imran Mulla (MS from UK) and Mr. Mkhh Jilani (IIMB Alumnus), who are experts in education sector, are mentoring and guiding Mrs. Pathan and helping her for the growth and expansion of Fashion Fundas.
32 batches of students (650+) have passed out of the academy till date and the students have nothing else but respect for Mrs. Pathan. As a teacher, she takes pride in sharing how Fashion Fundas has changed the life of many of her students. Some of her students have settled abroad having their own startups, some have got scholarships for international courses based on their portfolio from work at Fashion fundas, students in India are working as founder members for government ITI programs, private institutions, owning boutiques, working as designers for Bollywood celebs, etc.
Students studying with other fashion schools who are looking for expertise in practical training can also get the required guidance or career counseling at Fashion Fundas – Mrs. Pathan
Mrs. Pathan has also lent her expertise to nurture talent outside her academic interests. She was invited to judge Jallosh 2013 – a state level dance and fashion event along with co-judge Master Terence Lewis of DID Fame, she was one of the jurors for photography competition – Journey 2014 and recently for an Intra College Fest of IIIT – VOILA – in Mar’16. She has been a regular counselor for aspiring women entrepreneurs at forums of MCCIA, MCED and various colleges. She is also associated with The Great Pageant community of India and with International Fashion Designers and Jury members of International pageants.
When asked about how’s the road ahead for Fashion Fundas, Mrs. Pathan is quick to say, “Full speed ahead! Fashion Fundas will reach out to the World Fashion arena and we aspire to empower at least 100 women entrepreneurs per year. My goal is to write a thesis for Indian and International hand embroidery and start a fashion school with education holding no bars. Students should be able to access whatever expertise they wish to pursue in fashion education without any limitations whatsoever.”
