Fringed by Pir Panjal range and bestowed with verdant green meadows, alpine mountains and stunning natural lakes, Poonch is one of the most scenic places in Jammu and Kashmir. However, bounded by Line Of Control on its three sides, the area is in the news these days for its counter insurgency operations. In the midst of the tensions prevailing in the area, here is a zoologist who is spinning the web of skills development among the masses for their social upliftment. Meet Dr. Shamim Banday, an award winning professor of Zoology working in Government Degree College (GDC), Poonch; who has been instrumental in making his district shine on the world map.

Tremendous progress has been made in area of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). However, as per a study, only 11% of open source participants are women. Another study of GitHub developers from 2015 found that only around 6% were women. While we do not have data specific to India, we do know that Indians are making a great impact in the world of FOSS. Jigyasa Grover, an engineering student of Delhi Technological University, has made it to the top 5 finalists across the globe for the Red Hat 2017 Women in Open Source award in the Academic category for her contribution to the world of FOSS.

Creative Pad Photography, started by Kush Sharma in December 2014 in Pune, is a photography training company that focuses on teaching the art of photography to beginners and semi-advanced photographers in an easy-to-understand manner. His workshops on Basic and Advanced Photography are a hit among the practitioners of this art. He recently conducted a Basic Photography Workshop on 15th and 22nd May at SIMS, Khadki.
