GroupArtCircle is an art startup that conducts painting parties in Pune, with the desire to create more art lovers in the city. Along with providing a stress-free ambience for Punekars, to come and explore their inner Picasso, they are also focused on helping people create something beautiful, something that they could have never imagined to do by themselves.

Debasree Dey comes from IT background, having worked in corporate for more than a decade. Originally from Kolkata, Deb has travelled and lived in many countries and her last IT assignment brought her to Pune. Her gift of creativity could not remain confined within the prison of a 9 – 6 job, and hence she quit to start an art venture. Being a hobby artist, she used to paint during her working days and experienced the benefit of de-stressing from work pressure. GroupArtCircle was started with that idea in mind – to provide a platform to working individuals, to get some time off for themselves and indulge in something fun and productive, and also relax at the same time.

Painting Parties are basically partying together with friends or strangers, while also indulging in some form of creative activity. All the painting materials are provided by team GroupArtCircle. While painting, you can take a sip of your favorite beverage and chat with the group. The painting is pre-selected by Deb and step-by-step instruction is provided to help even a non-painter paint. Yes, these painting parties are meant for everyone and not just artists. People may feel intimidated at first, but once they attend a painting party, they get the confidence that they can paint and join future sessions without any hesitation. Deb has had painters of all ages, from 4 to 70.

The reason we stop painting once we grow past childhood is because we become aware of criticism and become afraid to make mistakes. Hence, the concept of social-artworking helps adults come out of their inhibitive state and paint along with many others like them. There is no competition, only the pure bliss of enjoying the time spent in painting.
People have had sleepless nights staring at their artwork with disbelief over their own creativity. Someone held a paint brush first time at GroupArtCircle, and after attending a few more sessions, they got nominated for painting competitions by their friends.

Deb’s team is mostly into conducting public painting parties, conducted over the weekends which is open to all. Also, people organise kitty parties where they call their group of friends and families and Deb’s team arrives at the venue to make them paint. GroupArtCircle has also done corporate painting parties and she is exploring more in this sector by introducing team-building activities based on painting.

The painting workshop organised by GroupArtCircle was excellent. I would like to thank Deb for creating highly engaging and a memorable experience for our customers – Nachiket Joshi, Marketing Division, BMW – Bavaria Motors

For me its not the painting but the state of mind we have while we paint. Its perfect state meditation ! And yes I was fortunate to experience same feeling yesterday at group art circle ! A perfect feeling of fun, happiness n freedom from all worldly tensions all at same time! – Diksha
When asked about how she ensures people come to know about the painting parties of GroupArtCircle, Deb is quick to respond – “Creativity is contagious. So when someone attends my workshop and their friends get to see their artwork, it inspires them to do something different as well.“
