Educator Chef shaping careers in Hospitality Industry

Education plays a vital role in building the future of our nation by transforming lives and communities. We have several educator heroes who help students aim high and achieve their potential, often meeting and overcoming considerable challenges along the way. Recently Delhi based MT Research & Educational Services (MTRES) came up with Teaching Excellence Awards (TEA) 2018, to recognize the monumental role teachers play in our society as they instil a desire to learn and achieve and create tomorrow’s leaders. Meet one of the awardees, Mr. Nitin Shende, Chef by profession serving as a professor in food production at Government Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology (GIHMCT), Nagpur, who has been honoured with Promising Teacher Award in MTRES TEA 2018.

Nitin Shende

Chef Nitin has given exposure of new pathways to thousands of students keen in shaping their career in hospitality industry. He has over 18 years of experience in teaching in this industry. He has been associated with Government Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Nagpur, since last 16 years. He trains students in 13 International and 32 Regional cuisines. He has imparted culinary skills to many under privileged students as well by conducting several skill development programmes.

During his journey as an educator, he has designed exhaustive Operational Manuals for chefs and cooks and also Staff manuals and Training manuals for non-supervisory staff. He has designed standard recipes card & yield card and conceived and implemented new selling techniques for food products. He was also the Chairman for Diploma in Hotel Management & Catering Technology Course committee for AICTE Curriculum Development (MSBTE).

He was honoured with Bharat Gaurav Award 2017 for his contribution in the field of hospitality education. He had carved his name in Limca Book of Records as a member of the team that made the biggest pizza in India in 2001. He is Member in NBA for design of SAR for hospitality courses. He is also the IFCA Head for educational wing (Indian Federation of Culinary Associations).
