Striving for holistic development of students to become future leaders

Education plays a vital role in building the future of our nation by transforming lives and communities. We have several educator heroes who help students aim high and achieve their potential, often meeting and overcoming considerable challenges along the way. Recently Delhi based MT Research & Educational Services (MTRES) came up with Teaching Excellence Awards (TEA) 2018, to recognize the monumental role teachers play in our society as they instil a desire to learn and achieve and create tomorrow’s leaders. Meet one of the awardees, Dr. Natika Poddar, Associate Professor, St.Francis Institute of Management and Research, Borivali, Mumbai, who has been honoured with Excellent Teacher Award in MTRES TEA 2018.

Dr. Natika Poddar

Dr Natika has overall 13 years of teaching experience and 2 years industry experience. She has done M.Com,M.Phil,MBA(Fin), PGDFM, CPCM, DTM and Ph.D. in Banking and Finance area. She is currently pursuing her second Ph.D. in Finance. She has been associated with St.Francis Institute of Management and Research, Borivali, Mumbai, since more than 10 Years now. Presently, she is also the Programme head for MFM/MMM course at the institute.

Ph.D. Focus Areas

First Ph.D. – Topic – A Comparative analysis of service provided by Private v/s Public sector banks.

The idea was to compare services of top leading public sector banks with respect to those of leading private banks and suggest measures for improvement.

Second Ph.D. (ongoing) – Topic – A study on sensitivity analysis on costing of housing project at Panvel region period from 2008:2016

The topic covers the factors involved in determining costing of housing project in an area like Navi Mumbai which is booming due to the proposal of the New International Airport. It also determines what are the most sensitive factors. The motivation to do the second Ph.D. was out of her Interest.

Her areas of interest are Financial accounting, Advanced Financial Management, Corporate Accounting, etc. She has co-authored six books in area of Finance and Management. She has published and presented more than 20 papers in highly reputed Indexed journals at National and International level. She is Associate Editorial Board Member at Social Science International Research Network Journal ISSN 2231-4970 and Chief Editor at META Research Journal. She has been honoured with multiple Awards such as Teaching Excellence, Research Excellence, Best Research Faculty and many more from highly reported and recognised Institutions.

She has attended many FDP and MDP in areas of Soft Skills, General Management and Finance. She has also conducted training programmes on soft skills for Professional bodies like Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and Institute of Company Secretaries of India. She uses innovative pedagogies like conducting Role play during Finance presentation, Blended Teaching- Learning through MOOC, Group Discussions through article reading and Multiple Choice based quiz to understand conceptual ideas. She has been instrumental in transforming the MFM/MMM Programme at the institute by organizing Events, Competitions, Project competitions and Extra-curricular activities for holistic development of her students, the future leaders.
