Education plays a vital role in building the future of our nation by transforming lives and communities. We have several educator heroes who help students aim high and achieve their potential, often meeting and overcoming considerable challenges along the way. Recently Delhi based MT Research & Educational Services (MTRES) came up with the second edition of their Teaching Excellence Awards (TEA) 2019, to recognize the monumental role teachers play in our society to create tomorrow’s leaders as they instil a desire to learn and achieve. The awards celebrate the efforts of all those who go above and beyond to promote excellence within our education system. Meet Dr. Sandhya M. Khedekar, Principal, Gokhale Education Society’s College of Education, Sangamner, Maharashtra, who has been honoured with Excellent Teacher Award in MTRES TEA 2019.
Dr Sandhya completed her graduation in B.Ed. in 2004 and post graduation in M. Ed. in 2005 and qualified SET in 2006. She started her career in education sector as a lecturer at Vidya Pratishthan’s B.Ed. College, Baramati, Maharashtra in 2005. Later, she also worked as Lecturer in Rizvi College of Education, Bandra (W), Mumbai and as Assistant Professor in Thakur Shyamnarayan College of Education & Research, Kandivali (E), Mumbai. She has been associated with Gokhale Education Society’s College of Education, Sangamner, since 2016.
Doctoral Research
Dr Sandhya completed her Ph.D. in 2013. The topic of her research was A study of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) awareness and academic performance of secondary students. The objectives of her research were to study the awareness of ICT of secondary students; to study their academic performance and to ascertain relationship between their awareness of ICT and their academic performance. More than 1600 students, selected randomly from the schools across western suburbs of Mumbai and Thane, studying in STD VIII and IX of SSC, ICSE and CBSE Boards, were included in this study.
She has published more than 72 research papers in International, National Educational Journals and presented more than 65 papers in International, National, State conferences and seminars. She has also authored a book titled Information Communication Technology – Awareness & Academic Performance, published by LAP LAMBERT Academic Publishing (2016, ISBN-13: 978-3659829086). She is a recognized M.Phil. and Ph.D. guide of Savitribai Phule University, Pune.
She is an educator with a difference and wears multiple hats. She is a black belt in Karate and is also a Mix Marshal Arts Trainer. She is also serving as Director, Empowered Butterflies Training and Research Academy, Mumbai, which is focused on imparting self-defence training to girls. She has trained over 6000 girls in self-defence. She has also worked in All India Radio as RJ (Announcer) for 2 years.
Always ready to share the plethora of knowledge she has, she is regularly invited as resource person and has delivered more than 200 lectures on various topics like Empowering with self defence, ICT, Shaping the minds of children, Discover yourself, Time Management, Educational Management, Role of Teacher in Academic Performance of Students, Research Data Analysis, Teacher Education, etc. She has organised more than 30 national, international workshops and seminars on various topics,
Dr Sandhya has also served as an Educational Advisor for educational projects in the states of Meghalaya and Madhya Pradesh. She is also the Visiting Team Member of National Council for Teacher Education, Delhi. She was honoured with Prof. Indira Parikh 50 Women Education Leaders Award, Dewang Mehta National Award for Leadership in Education and various other state level awards for her contribution in education and women empowerment.
