Education plays a vital role in building the future of our nation by transforming lives and communities. We have several educator heroes who help students aim high and achieve their potential, often meeting and overcoming considerable challenges along the way. Recently Delhi based MT Research & Educational Services (MTRES) came up with Teaching Excellence Awards (TEA) 2018, to recognize the monumental role teachers play in our society as they instil a desire to learn and achieve and create tomorrow’s leaders. Meet one of the awardees, Dr. Seema Hakim, Professor and former Chairperson, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Aligarh Muslim University, who has been honoured with Outstanding Teacher Award in MTRES TEA 2018.
Prof. Seema Hakim has more than 33 years of clinical as well as teaching experience. She received her Medical degree from Banaras Hindu University in 1981, Internship in 1982 and MD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1986. She also received renowned fellowships, FICOG and FICMCH in 2002 and 2004 respectively. She began her career at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (A.M.U., Aligarh) as a Demonstrator in 1986, promoted to become Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor since 2006 till date. She was also the Chairperson of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She has started infertility OPD and IVF facility in the department. She is also serving as the Provost of S.N. Hall (Resident Hall, A.M.U.) and Nodal Officer of Regional Resource & Training centre, J.N. Medical College, A.M.U.
She holds position of Coordinator for many Refresher Courses, Moderator of quizzes and Trainer of different state level training programes. She has been appointed as an Enquiry Officer of many enquiry cases and provided organizational and leadership roles in different capacities in Aligarh Muslim University. She is the esteemed member of over a dozen of Professional bodies, Editorial boards of Research Journals, Societies and Committees. In her career span, she has participated in about 106 Conferences, Symposia, Workshop, CME and Seminars. Moreover, she has also organized about half a dozen of CME and Conferences on Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She completed the MCI recognized Advanced Course in Medical Education (ACME) in 2014 and is also the Coordinator of Medical Education Unit (MEU) at AMU.
Her academic interests are Emergency Obstetric Care, High Risk Pregnancy, Minimal Access Surgery and Contraception. She has published about 90 papers in Journals of National and International repute and has been invited more than 80 times to provide guest lectures including chairing of about 20 scientific sessions in several conferences and symposia. She is the Guide / Co-Guide of more than 55 MD / MS Thesis from 1995 till date. She was honoured with Life time Achievement Award for health & Medical Sciences by Venus International Women Awards- VIWA 2017 & 2018.
