Dentistry Educator believes challenges in life always keep you moving ahead

Education plays a vital role in building the future of our nation by transforming lives and communities. We have several educator heroes who help students aim high and achieve their potential, often meeting and overcoming considerable challenges along the way. Recently Delhi based MT Research & Educational Services (MTRES) came up with Teaching Excellence Awards (TEA) 2018, to recognize the monumental role teachers play in our society as they instil a desire to learn and achieve and create tomorrow’s leaders. Meet one of the awardees, Dr. Vandana Gade, Professor, Swargiya Dadasaheb Kalmegh Smruti Dental College and Hospital, Nagpur, who has been honoured with Excellent Teacher Award in MTRES TEA 2018.

Dr Vandana Gade

Dr Vandana Gade has overall 19 years of teaching experience. She completed her BDS and MDS (Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics) from Government Dental College and Hospital, Nagpur. She started her teaching career after clearing MPSC (Maharashtra Public Service Commission) and joined as a lecturer in Government Dental College and Hospital, Nagpur, in 2000. After serving at the institute for 8 years, she felt that her career was not shaping up in line with her aspirations and hence decided to switch jobs and joined Swargiya Dadasaheb Kalmegh Dental College, Nagpur, as a Professor, in 2008. She has been associated with the institute ever since.

I had job security at my previous Institution but I felt my career progression became stagnant. Whereas, every day is a new day and new journey for me in my current Institution. Challenges in life always keep you moving ahead.

Her new journey started as Professor, Guide, Chairpersons at various conferences and Speaker at various forums. It gave her more opportunities to channelize her interests in Research because of which she was able to complete more than 10 research projects. She has presented 7 papers in National and 1 Paper in International conference. She has published 53 scientific papers in National and International journals. According to Google Scholar Citation Analysis, her citations are 67 with h-index 4 and i10 index 2. She has published 6 books as a co-author along with her Post Graduate students.

Dr Vandana Gade

She is reviewer in various National and International journals like pub med, indexed jounals like Jounal of Conservative Dentistry, Europian Endodontic journal, contemporary clinical dentistry, etc. She is also a Member of editorial board in JCD, DENTAL PROBE (Journal published by IDA-Nagpur Branch) and Archives of Dental Research. She has attended 13 National and 2 International Conferences, 41 CDE and workshops and 5 Faculty development programmes.

She aspires to get a master degree in Clinical Psychology so that she can understand youth psychology scientifically and guide them properly in career counseling and motivate them in positive way so that they should be a responsible citizen and help as a Nation Builder. She also would like to continue guiding students in their research activities. She wants to start a project which will bridge the gap between Academia and Industry.
