AMU LIS Professor honoured with MTRES Teaching Excellence Award 2018

Education plays a vital role in building the future of our nation by transforming lives and communities. We have several educator heroes who help students aim high and achieve their potential, often meeting and overcoming considerable challenges along the way. Recently Delhi based MT Research & Educational Services (MTRES) came up with Teaching Excellence Awards (TEA) 2018, to recognize the monumental role teachers play in our society as they instil a desire to learn and achieve and create tomorrow’s leaders. Meet one of the awardees, Prof. (Dr.) P. M. Naushad Ali, Professor, Department of Library & Information Science, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), who has been honoured with Outstanding Teacher Award in MTRES TEA 2018.

Dr. Ali did BLISc from Aligarh Muslim University and MLISc from University of Calicut. He obtained PhD in Library & Information Science from University of Lucknow. He has over 22 years of teaching and research experience. He has served the Department of Library & Information Science, AMU, since 1996, in various capacities with increasing responsibilities such as Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Reader, Associate Professor and Professor.

His areas of interest include Information Management, Knowledge Management, E-learning and E-Publishing. Being a promising researcher and prolific writer, Dr. Ali has published 5 books and over 70 research papers in various national and international journals and conference proceedings. Ten PhDs and two Mphil degrees have been awarded under his supervision and guidance. He has presented about 40 research papers in National and International conferences and seminars.

He has successfully completed six research projects funded one each by Department of Science and Technology (DST)Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) and Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) and three by University Grants Commission. He was the Deputy coordinator of the project “Knowledge Management in Libraries” sanctioned by UGC under SAP (DRS-1) scheme.

Dr. Naushad Ali has designed and developed a Subject Information Gateway in Information and Technology (http://www.itsubjectgateway.info) and an E-learning portal in Library and Information Science (http://www.lislearning.in), that have been accessed by professionals from more than 130 countries.

His contribution to the organization and imparting of knowledge is significant as he has organized a dozen of national and international academic events including seminars, conferences and workshops, etc. He has delivered a good number of Invited talks in national and international conferences and seminars. He had presented a research paper in the International Conference on Knowledge, held at Portsmouth University, London, UK, in 2015.

Dr. Ali presented his project on LIS learning in the 84th IFLA World Library and Information Congress held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in August, 2018.

Recently, Dr. Ali received the 84th IFLA World Library and Information Congress participation award and delivered an invited talk on trends in LIS learning in the International Colloquium on Information Science organized by Faculty of Information Management, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia. His presentation was judged in the category of innovative projects of international relevance, won wide acclaim in the conference as several delegates from across the world expressed willingness to explore possible partnership and collaboration with AMU. He also attended ASEAN Caucus organized by National Library of Malaysia and National Library Board, Singapore.

He was the recipient of travel grant to present a paper in the DGI-Online Conference held at Frankfurt am-main, Germany, in 2006. He was also honoured Visiting Fellowship under Indo-French Cultural exchange programme of Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, to visit France for a period of one month to conduct short term research on Knowledge Management in 2008. He had also received HERMES Fellowship to pursue Post Doctorate (PDF) in France in 2009.

He also served as Chairman, Department of Library and Information Science, AMU, during the period 2009-2012. He is the editor-in-chief of Journal of Knowledge and Communication Management (JKCM). He is also an active member of national and international professional bodies like International Council of Knowledge Management (ICKM), International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology (IACSIT), American Society for Research (ASR), ISKO, ILA, IASLIC, IATLIS, IASS, etc.

MT Research & Educational Services is an initiative to bridge the gap between academics and industry. It was founded in 2013 with the combination of industry, academic and research personnel.
